Letting things sit and percolate on a back burner helps but if you allow it to simmer too long, the pot runs out of water completely! Kate's class helped to some extent but after replotting my opening and drafting the new scenes, I'm stalled again. Like you, I'm searching for answers-what exactly am I stuck on? And inspiration. I'm considering another class, attended a historical fiction writers chapter meeting, and signed up for Camp NaNo.  My goal for January was to write the Crecy campaign which incorporates the first turning point in my novel.  My initial approach, to write the campaign day-by-day, didn't work so I stopped.  Now I'm revisiting it, asking myself questions like: what happened to Edward during the campaign that impacted his character arc? The answer(s) will allow me to focus, to select only the bits that really show his evolution not what happened historically. How might I use narrative summary instead of scene?  I'm so new at this, I don't even know all the options that might work!  I hope you keep checking in.  We can positively motivate each other!  RJ

Hi RJ,I've been more or less stalled on my novel since the last time I posted here. I did find a Google Sheets function that turned my tension ratings into a little line graph; that was illuminating! It seems like my first half written for 2014 NaNoWriMo is fairly well plotted in terms of frequent and escalating moments of tension but that my second half (written as a sequel for 2015 NaNoWriMo) really lags in this respect...so I'm still turning over options in my head for scenes to add and cut, but I haven't done anything about it yet. I know I should just start writing and see what comes of it. It has been a crazy busy month socially, so maybe I'll just move my Feb/March goals into April and start anew then!

Hi classmates ...Is anyone still checking in on this forum?  Life has a way of intruding on our best intentions.  My sister's been visiting and I've found it impossible to write ... just as I get into the groove, there's an interruption ... so I gave up while she was still with me.  Now that she's taken off, I'm on my own again and hope to get back on track.  I signed up for April's Camp NaNo and I'm awaiting a Cabin assignment. On other fronts here's what I've been working on and what I hope to accomplish:1) I finished my scene list but about halfway through I lost steam and focus - I just wanted to finish no matter how crappy it was.  At some point, I'll have to go back and revisit each of those scenes and think through what each is supposed to convey.2) I'm still 'stalled' in my original writing ... having trouble dreaming up what occurs in a scene and I'm not sure what will fix that.  I keep looking for classes that might trigger my climb out of the 'hole' I find myself in.3) I've researched some additional resources/books to read about my main character and life in the  14th C. hoping those might spur my imagination.Goals for this week:1) Revisit my outline/scene chart and work on imagining what happens in one new scene;2) Draft it! I've listed all the scenes I have drafted in a chronological order and attempted to identify the purpose of each scene, the POV character and questions it is meant to pose.  However, I feel like I still have 'holes' in my story that I just can't seem to get my head around.  Thanks for checking in and maybe we'll reconnect in your next class.  I do enjoy your teaching style.RJ
